What is a Duvet?

Puja Lalwani
A duvet (pronounced 'du-vay') is perhaps the most luxurious piece of bed linen ever created.
You've probably already used a duvet, but you still don't know what it is. It is a product that provides insulation just like a blanket would.
The difference is that it is a bag, that is filled with eiderdown (generally known as down) feathers and completely eliminates the need to use any sheets, blankets, quilts, or comforters to cover oneself while sleeping. It is one of the softest coverings, and therefore, most comfortable to sleep in. It is also known as a duvet insert or duvet comforter.
It is an element of bedding meant to replace a blanket, sheet, or any other item you require to keep yourself warm while sleeping. Its beauty lies in the fact that it is light, yet it has the ability to keep you comfortably warm.
Having a duvet cover is important because cleaning a duvet on a regular basis is not easy. With a cover, you can easily keep the duvet clean, as it is replaceable and washable. Further, it also adds variety in terms of color and texture to the room, and serves as an interesting decorative element.
Duvets are a great choice for places that are cold, but perhaps not exceptionally cold. With their low maintenance, and availability in a variety of sizes, they are the perfect choice.
Since they eliminate the need to use any other insulating material while sleeping, they enable you to make your bed easily without having to spend too much time on the process. In effect, duvets are the most luxurious items that offer a quality of sleep unmatched by any blanket or sheet covering.
Duvets and comforters differ from one another, but one may consider duvets to be luxury comforters simply for their rich, soft quality.
In order to make the most of the experience of sleeping under a duvet, purchasing a quilted duvet is a good idea. In a regular duvet, chances are that the feathers may collect in one corner and make it uncomfortable for use.
Duvets are made of a variety of materials, ranging from cotton to silk to wool. You may consider a duvet to be expensive, but the fact remains that the more expensive they are, the better they are in the long run.
Plus, they save you the cost of a lot of other forms of bed linen, and duvet covers add that dash of elegance to your room, and to the overall bedroom decorating scheme, that no other item probably can.
Duvet covers can be matched to the interiors of a room, which is why they make for a good investment in the long run.
Remember, when you do get a duvet, measure your bed size, or a comforter that you have been using, and choose a duvet according to those measurements. This will make your entire experience enriching, and allow you to have a wonderful night's sleep, every night!
