Tempered glass is used in many things that are essential for every household, be it your car, computer, microwave, cell phone, or the windows of your house. With increasing technology, the demand for tempered glass is increasing, as it makes the use of the aforementioned devices much safer.
When it comes to construction, it is widely used as window glass. It looks similar to regular glass, but is processed in a different fashion. To know why it is preferred, you must know what it is, and how it works.

Properties

Tempered glass is much stronger than regular glass, and does not break into sharp fragments when struck, but breaks into small pebble-like pieces without sharp edges. This helps avoid major injuries and serious cuts in case of accidents, which is why this glass is known as safety glass.
Most builders prefer to have tempered glass to make the house safer. It is manufactured by a thermal process of extreme heating and very quick cooling, which makes the glass much harder than normal varieties.
This process increases the strength of the glass five to ten times that of the original one. It also becomes heat-resistant due to the process it undergoes.

Advantages

  • Safety: The basic advantage of having a tempered glass panel as a window is that it is safer than regular glass. If you have small kids at home, it is suggested to have tempered glass, which can reduce the intensity of the accidents that may take place in the house, apart from preventing small-to-moderate accidents in the first place.
Strength and Durability: As said before, tempered glass is stronger and hence can survive strong weather changes easily, be it strong wind pressure, tornado, or heavy rains.
Almost all tall buildings (i.e. skyscrapers) use tempered glass, as they are most likely to experience heavy wind pressures. Apart from this, its durability and strength also allows consumers to go for frame-less windows. Frame-less doors and windows are in demand these days, as they are a part of modern home decor.
  • Quality: The tempering process does not affect the transparency of the glass, which provides you with a clear view that is necessary for the window, while maintaining structural rigidity. Another advantage is that they help you maintain the temperature of the room. Being heat-resistant, they can resist temperature up to 200-300 degree Fahrenheit.
  • Designs and Varieties: This glass is available in various attractive designs and patterns that allow you to experiment with myriad designs. You can choose from clear or obscure varieties that are standard and widely used. If you wish to go for colorful glass, stained or insulated glass windows are great for you.
It is quite difficult to tell you about the cost, as it completely depends on the size and shape of your window, frame of the window, and the thickness of a glass.
It is advisable to contact local dealers and take the estimates, and finally go for the one who offers more varieties at a price that is easy on your pocket. Make sure to check the quality of the glass used in it. Good windows are sure to enhance the look of your house, office, or car, so choose the right designs!
