Steams are beneficial to those who have sinus problems and asthma. It is quite easy to convert your existing shower enclosure into a steam shower by making some changes to your bathroom design, and by using waterproof material to reap all the steam room benefits.

Installing the Shower

Structure

The moisture from this shower is highly penetrating and can cause structural damages to your home if proper waterproofing care is not taken. Use ceramic tiles for your shower walls to prevent the moisture from getting into your walls.
You can also have the walls made of marble or granite which are water-resistant materials. Having a waterproof door will prevent the steam from escaping. The ceiling of the shower should have a slope otherwise water drops will drip from above, after condensation.
Try a fiber glass or steel sheet for your roof as an inexpensive waterproof ceiling option. The floor on which you are planning to install it is also very important, put tiles that give grip and prevent slipping. As a safety measure, have a couple of handles on your walls to provide grip to the occupants, when they move around in the steam area.
Choose the right generator, you can get one from your local dealer, and it should be fixed in such a way, that it can be easily accessed for maintenance.

Accessories

If space permits, have a bench on which you can sit, relax, and enjoy the steam. The bench material should be waterproof.
Some modular shower units also allow you to play your favorite music while you are soaking in the steam bath. Multiple showers are another thing you could look at, if you have the space and inclination, but the costs will go up.
If you have a busy social or work life, and feel the need to stay connected all the time, you could even have a phone line inside your steam shower. Some shower units have water nozzles that will massage your body as the steam fills up the enclosure. These units also come with an overhead rainfall water shower which can have a therapeutic effect.
Installing a steam shower is something you should think about if you are remodeling your house or thinking about renovating your bathroom. Having a shower of this type at home will also give you an opportunity to relax and enjoy in the confines of your home in today's fast paced world.
