How to Paint a Concrete Porch

The process of painting the front porch and painting the basement porch, is fairly simple with the only hard part being selection of the paint.

Generally, a brown camouflaging shade does good, but one can also consider some other aspects. A great way to make the porch look attractive is to use the colors of the house itself. Some people have also tried the trick of making it look like a regular brick one.

Another aspect that one would have to consider is painting the floor next to the door, in a relevant shade. The best way to zero down on the color is to stand at the gate and visualize the different colors. Once one has got the colors, rush down to the hardware store and get the can of the shade that one likes the most.

Keep a few rags handy and some gasoline to get off any paint that would have come on the body. In addition to that, make it a point to wear old and disposable clothes.

Procedure The procedure is fairly simple and will require a days work. Preferably do it on a Sunday. The first step that is involved in the process is to give the porch a good wash with a water hose and a concrete floor cleaner.

Scrape all possible dirt and mud from the surface and make it clean. In the morning, give it at least 3 washes before getting down to paint it.

After one is done with the washing, set some paint in the paint tray. Take up a roller and start layering the porch. Make it a point to leave out the corners and edges. Give the entire porch a coat of paint and let it set. After the paint is sufficiently dry, give a second and a third coat.

There is no specific drying time that is required and all that one would have to do is bend down and see if the paint still has a darker form with a moist look. When all such patches disappear, the coat is said to be dry enough.

After one has given the successive coats, one should give three successive coats to all the corners and edges. This has to be done with the help of a simple brush. It would take a long time and patience is necessary. After the coat has dried completely, wait for about 48 hours and give it a wash with water. This shall wash away any accumulated dirt.
