Mobile Home Skirting

Abhay Burande
A Mobile home is an interesting concept. Several reasons can be cited to prove the need for mobile home skirting. This is of three types - vinyl, rock, and brick.
Homes are constructed in factories rather than on the site. Then, these are transported by tractor-trailers over public highways to the site. Such homes are called 'mobile homes'. Such homes are frequently found in rural areas and high-density developments. In the United States and the United Kingdom, they are called 'communities'.
These homes are built under protected conditions as per a federal code created by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These are classified as single-wides and double-wides. The former are maximum sixteen feet in width. The latter are minimum twenty feet in width.

The Need for Mobile Home Skirting

Skirting makes a home complete and enhances its value. Animals like the neighbor's cats or dogs are distanced from the home. It provides an insulation against the elements. The owner can install it without any assistance. The heating and cooling bill is reduced. Vinyl, Rock and Brick are the different types of skirting.
For Vinyl, the important tools are: hammer, screwdriver, snips, plumb bob or level, tap measure, power saw with a fine tooth blade, notching tool, chalk line, utility knife. Use a power saw with a fine tooth blade or aviation snips to cut the skirting components. Fasten the top trim back in the center of nailing slots for normal expansion and contraction.
On the unit surface, fasten every slotted hole leaving 0.5 inches between lengths. Avoid butting the ends. Overlap the top trim front almost 1 inch at joints. Keep 0.5 inch between pieces of the bottom channel during installation. Avoid tightening the nails. The screw nails have good holding power. Tightening them too much can distort the vinyl.
Drive the special nails in the middle of the nailing slot just short of reaching the top trim back. Achieve 0.75 inch penetration in a solid wood substance. In ambient temperature, the part must expand and contract during the normal change. The finish must be such that there is 1/16 inch play between the nail head and part.
Every artificial rock panel is manufactured from a single molding of ABS material. This is the same composite that is used for football helmets. This panel does not scratch, dent or rattle. Rock panel skirting resists inclement weather. The access door for rock skirting provides easy access to foundation crawl space. There is no need to remove any panels.
A strong dead bolt maintains the door in place. A sturdy hinge swings the door wide open. This is of 32 inches width and 36 inches height. It is available in colors, like brown and gray. The Universal Vent Insert for Rock Skirting is another accessory. This is an HUD approved ventilation grill. The color is black to match mortar joints.
Brick skirting requires a brick panel, corners, top ledge, universal starter strip, brick corners and skirting studs. It is manufactured from high quality resins with many coats of paint to have genuine brick and stone look. The seams are hidden. There are vent inserts and vinyl bottom rails. A positive panel interlock system is used for easy installation.
The panels are UV resistant. The overall size is 44 - ⅝ inches in width and 18¾ inches in height. The different colors used are buff blend, char brown, colonial white, red blend, used buff, and used red. A top ledge is used along with brick skirting. It is optional. The dimensions are 36 inches in width, 3 - ⅝ inches height and 1¼ inches depth.
