Adding a window trim to the windows gives the décor a stylish and modern look. Window trimming is not just reserved for beautifying the exteriors, but it can be used for the interiors as well.
If you think about it, window trimming is not an essential part of decorating a home. But to give accent to a room, it is the little details like the right window molding that can give it depth of character and lift it from ho-hum to fabulous.
If you flip through any interior decoration magazine, you will find that the most picture perfect and stylish rooms are those that uses each element of interior decoration wisely. Decorative moldings can accentuate and enhance the décor of any room, be it the living room or the study.
The trick to use window trim to accentuate the architectural details of your home is to choose the right window trim style that matches the décor. Just like a very ornate Victorian style window trimming would look totally out-of-place in a modern minimalistic décor, a flat trimming would not be suitable for a country style home.

Ideas for Interior Window Trims

Trimmings or moldings are available in a wide variety of designs and styles, from crown moldings to baguette molding and bead molding. Moldings are traditionally fashioned out of wood, but you can find moldings made with vinyl and plastic.
They are also available in a wide variety of colors and textures to suit your home decoration needs. One of the best way to use trimmings in a window is to opt for a simple casing. Install a casing all along the perimeter of the window in a color that complements the wall paint color.
This is one of the simplest ways to add some pizazz to the room. If you have a large space and your furniture color is a muted one, then go for a contrasting color with the window casing.
If your home décor boasts of a neutral color palette, then opt for a contrasting color like chocolate, dark brown or even teal to give the room more definition. Using contrasting colors works really well in case of large picture windows and bay windows.
Another great idea for using window trimming to enhance the décor of a room is to install narrow painted trims in a lattice pattern all along the window pane. For this, you need a flat trimming which does not have any ornate carvings on it.
Treat the flat trim with semi gloss finish in an attractive color and then install it in a simple lattice pattern. This type of window trim adds pizazz to a single window in any room whether it is a living room or a recreation room.
If you have a double story window or a classic bay window, you can add trimmings along the bottom of the window to create a window seat. This will not only give the window seat a more attractive look but it will add a nice touch to the décor of the room.
A classic window trim idea is to install a window stool (i.e., a ledge) with window trimmings. A window stool is a ledge that protrudes about 4-5 inches from the bottom of the window. Flat panel molding is one of the best choices for a window stool.
You can trim the rest of the window with fluted case molding in a color and pattern that matches the flat molding at the bottom of the window.
While remember not to go overboard with different molding shapes and textures. With such a wide variety of moldings available, you might be sorely tempted to use different moldings for each window of a room. But to create uniformity, you should ideally use only one or two window trims.
Interior window trim should be used judiciously and in moderation to make your home decor look stylish and attractive.
