Floor Soundproofing

Today many people prefer to soundproof their floors to block unwanted noises. Before you start the soundproofing work, it is essential to determine the kind of sound you are challenged with. Basically, there are two types of noises that need to be considered when it comes to soundproofing the floors. The first one is airborne noises which are primarily caused by the sounds of television, radio, machines, and appliances, etc. which travel through air. They also include, barking and shouting, etc.
The second type of noise is impact noise, that occurs when two objects come into contact with each other, such as, footfall, sound of people walking around, sound of objects dragged or rolled around, or vibrations that can be heard due to certain machines, such as dryers and washing machines, etc. So first you need to determine the kind of noise that is creating a problem and try to implement the solution accordingly as there are different materials that can be used to block these noises and make the room or a house a soundproof one.

Soundproofing Materials

There are ways to soundproof the floors during or after the construction. Floor insulation is one of the best way to block the noises between the two floors. Many manufactures produce some good quality soundproof materials that can be used for floor insulation. Given below are some of the best soundproofing materials that can be used.
Rock Wool: Experts generally recommend rock wool insulation that needs to be placed between the floor joists. Wool is known to kill the sound effectively making your room or home soundproof.

Cellulose: Many people also go for cellulose, which is known as effective soundproofing material that can be sprayed into the place to clock the sound waves. Cellulose can also be placed below the carpet and hence, it is easy to use.
Acoustic Foams: Acoustic foam is also known as open celled foam that can be used as a soundproofing material. This foam absorbs the sound waves and traps them inside, thereby blocking them.

Mass Loaded Vinyl: It is also known as soundproofing vinyl which is light weight but has higher mass which helps in blocking the sound waves. Mass loaded vinyl is thin and can be easily insulated between the floor joists.
Apart from this, sheetrock, fiber and plastic soundproof mats, wood and acoustic underlays, soundproof tiles, and constructing extra inner wall can also help you soundproof a room. These materials can also be used in the walls to make them soundproof. In case of windows and doors, insulating them with soundproof glass is an ideal option for you.
