How to Paint a Room

Painting a room is the best thing you can do when you feel like you need a different look for your house or bedroom. There are so many ideas for interior painting. Using versatile colors, combinations, patterns, designs, and tools, you can create your own personality in that room with these ideas.

But there are certain arrangements you have to make before you start painting. You need to make sure that you're just painting the wall and not the furniture. Hence, you have to first gather the things you need, empty the room, and then start painting. It is a very tiring and time-consuming job, but it is also worth the trouble when you are done.

Painting a room well is not difficult, all you need is time and a little creativity. There are many ways of painting a room. The colors used can make the room look bigger or smaller in size. A room looks smaller when you use bold prints or designs, while on the other hand if you want to a room to look bigger, use lighter shades of paint and dark-colored moldings.

• Paint brushes with synthetic hair for latex paint
• Paint cans
• Fine grit sandpaper
• Rollers

• Plastic sheathing (to cover windows)

• Step stool or ladder

• Make a list of all the required materials and keep them in a large tool box so you don't lose any of them.
• Remove all the movable items in the room like furniture, beds, and wall decorations so they don't come in the way. Cover up the furniture you can't move with the plastic sheath or newspaper.

• After the room is completely empty, remove the unnecessary protrusions like old paint drips or nails with sandpaper. Fill the holes up and then flatten the bumps with sandpaper again.

• You can either remove or cover up all the hardware like door knobs, handles, hinges, electrical outlets, electrical switch covers, smoke detectors, and doorbells as well.
• You also need to make sure that your room is dust free as well as free from particles of sandpaper. These tend to settle on wet paint leaving bumps and marks.

• Remove mildew and mold with a mixture of bleach and water. Then wash with water again and dry with a blow dryer, so it doesn't grow back. You can also use a primer which is resistant to all these defects.
• Clean the surface of the walls if they have spiders, cobwebs, dust, or any other abnormalities like grease and old paint patches.

• Choose the colors carefully and decide which ones you want on the walls and ceilings. Read the instructions on the paint cans so that you don't make any mistakes, and apply the paint with your brushes and rollers.

• Paint the ceiling then the walls, baseboard trim, door, and door trim. When you are done painting these main surfaces, let the paint dry and then you can add some drawings or patterns over the base coats to make it more attractive. Don't forget to paint the moldings in separate colors to make them noticeable. These will be your finishing touches.

• Let the painted room dry and set for about a day or two and then move in the furniture back.
