Home Gym Flooring Options

Saptakee Sengupta
Rubber, wood, carpet tiles, and vinyl are some of the best home gym flooring options. Here is an information about the attributes of each of these floor types.
If you have planned to set up a gym in your house, then constructing a good floor is one of the primary concerns. A durable floor is required in order to withstand the heavy weights of the machines installed as well as the pressure exerted while performing the moves.
The budget is also a factor to be considered. However, selecting the ideal floor will become easier for you if you know the various options available.
There are certain things that should be considered while deciding the floor pattern. Apart from the expenses incurred, you should also know the look you want to get. The color of the floor should match the overall interior decor of your house.
You should also estimate the area required for your gym or the room where you want to set it up. Choosing dark colors like black, coffee, brown, navy etc. suits any type of interiors, while bright shades render a fresh look to the floor. Light-colored finishing should be avoided because it's very difficult to maintain the color in the long run.

Rubber

If you are looking for an affordable type of flooring, then opt for interlocking rubber. Rubber gives additional protection to the existing floor. Rubber rolls are also easy to install and you can easily do it yourself.
It is sold in sections, and you have to take the measurement of the floor where it will be installed. You can also get it done by a professional. High impact exercises can be comfortably performed on rubber floors. Rubber can be cleaned without any difficulty. The price ranges from USD 10-60 for each tile.

Wood

This type of floor is mostly made of hardwood. Pure wood for a gym is comparatively more expensive than other types of floors.
Wood is used when you want to play energetic games on the floor. Wood floors are seen at houses where people play table tennis, basketball, badminton, etc. on huge spaces meant especially for sports. The designs are framed by professional architects by taking precise measurements.

Carpet Tile

Carpet tiles look trendy and neat. Square carpet tiles are available in a wide range of designs, shapes, and sizes. You will often find them in houses where a small room is transformed into a gym. It's usually laid to perform yoga and stretching exercises.
Although you can keep machines on carpet tiles, they might get torn due to repeated use. Therefore, it is suggested that you choose this floor to do freehand exercises. You can also use mat tiles instead of carpet tiles.

Vinyl

One of the most common options is vinyl. You will find this kind of floor where high energetic gym activities are performed. Weightlifting, cardio, aerobics, power yoga, etc. are done on this type of floor.
This floor is water resistant and can be cleaned easily. Vinyl floors are available in different patterns and colors, and at an affordable price. The main disadvantage of vinyl is that it's less durable than pure wood, concrete, or rubber floors.
Look into all the floor types before installing one for yourself. Consider the look, quality, and the price while purchasing the material. Concrete floors are never recommended for gyms because you can end up with an injury in case you fall on it. If you have a concrete floor, cover it with rubber sheaths or carpet tiles.
