Azmin Taraporewala
A high-traffic carpet is meant to be used in high-traffic areas. These are the areas in the house where a lot of people usually dwell and move around more often than other places. These constitute the stairs, hallway, and the living and dining areas. Here is an information to guide you in choosing the right carpet for heavily used areas.
A neatly arranged living area gives a pleasant feeling and is welcoming. Imagine a shabbier-looking living area, with the cushions lying in a corner and the carpet dirty. It takes a lot of hard work to clean these carpets, and as the men are usually lazy, the onus falls onto the women to clean them. Also, no one wants to do it after a hard day's work.
The easier way is to install a carpet which is meant for high abuse and rough usage that would not look that untidy even if it is. A high-traffic carpet is your answer.

Variants

A type of high-traffic carpet used to hide the blemishes on it is called the frieze. This is made from twisted or curled fibers, gives a classy look. The manufacturers twist the fibers in such a manner that it looks tightly wound due to which the marks of vacuum, dirt, and footprints are hidden.
This provides an illusion of neatness and these carpets are recommended to be installed in high-traffic areas. A downside of this is that the number of designs is limited. Complex patterns cannot be executed due to the manner in which the fibers are twisted.
To make the carpet striking and visually appealing, yarns of different hues and shades are employed in the making. It is essential for the manufacturer to bear in mind and ensure that the quality of the yarn is super built in order to bear fire and intense heat. Hence, the fibers should be heat and fire-resistant.
Another type of high-traffic carpet is referred to as the level loop pile. It consists of fibers of the same length where the loops remain positioned. Their tight looping design makes the carpet easier to clean as the dirt on the surface is visible.
The cut carpet pile is another variant that is preferred by a majority of people in the market. It has fibers that are looped, followed by chopping off the edges, resulting in the yarn standing up erect. However, it lacks the crushing resistance that most of the loose fiber carpets offer.
A multi-level loop pile is a carpet that has many loops of varying heights. This is indeed an ideal choice to trap dirt and makes the cleaning process a bit taxing due to its short loop formation. But the appearance is what makes it more desirable.
Berber is another prominent type that is equally preferred, as the Berber is made like a loop pile with fibers that are thick in nature. It is due to this reason that it is a preferred choice for all those who count durability as a major factor while selecting a carpet.

Tips for Installation

Stairs are considered to be a high-traffic area, that makes the surface susceptible to dirt and intense movement. It is thus advisable to use a carpet that has tight loops for the stairs.
While choosing the color scheme, it is important to take into consideration the fact that the staircase area will always be high on dust and dirt. Selecting neutral colors could be the best idea.
Another trend that is catching up fast is that of installing tiles. These are modern and contemporary, and are easy to install. Carpet tiles with a thin structure work best for high-traffic areas that will serve the purpose with the option of easy installing. These are made from foam, linoleum, vinyl, and rubber and are a perfect choice for the stairs too.
These were the various types of high-traffic carpets that you could choose from. In order to keep the carpet area clean, vacuum cleaning with rotor beater blades or with the suction mode is preferred and the use of a carpet steamer to get rid of stains should be a part of your regular cleaning regimen.
