Heat-resistant Paint

Azmin Taraporewala
Don't let the weather rule the condition of your surfaces. If they experience hot flushes, due to the erratic and grilling atmosphere, heat-resistant paint is the answer. Step in, read up, and paint on. ...
Hot, sunny days, beads of perspiration making their way, rolling down your forehead, hair-strands feel glued and the body seems to have a glutinous wrap around it. Makes one feel awful, isn't it! Well, what do you think any surface would go through during such 'Barbecuing' days? Spare a thought.
The surfaces, if not coated with heat-resistant varnish go through immense agony and sweat it out by ripping themselves off the paint.
A normal enamel paint does not have the foundation or the resistance to sustain heat. Being less resilient in nature, the paint invites problems such as cracks and peel offs to invade the surface. Using heat-resistant paint saves them against such invaders and fortifies them to fight heat-y episodes.

Features of Heat-resistant Paint

  • Heat-resistant paint protects the surfaces from cracks and peel offs; thereby, ensuring that no corrosion of any kind comes into being.
  • These paints are paints that have the inherent property to dry within a stiff period of time.
  • It maintains an extreme temperature of 650 degree C.
  • The high temperature of the paint makes it suitable for painting boilers, barbecue grills, furnaces, wood stoves, engines and cast iron chimneys.
  • The curing of the paint takes place at 190 degree centigrade, thus it can be used only on those surfaces, that reach this mark of temperature.
  • Paints, like, SMAC Elastobond have multi-ceramic and nano-tech based chemicals which help the surface once coated, to reflect heat effectively. It also helps in regulating and controlling the temperature escalations.
  • They have the ability to expand, their elasticity and flexibility being very high.
  • They are available in variegated colors. There are many more colors than classy black, that formulate a superior protective texture around the surface and withstand exceptionally high temperatures. Gray and red oxide are also the colors that you could take your pick from.

.. Grill:

Here is a method you could follow to paint your old grill or barbecue stations. A step-by-step approach is presented here:
  • Place your grill steadily and gently scrub the surface with a wire brush to get rid of flakes, thus making the surface smooth and ready for a paint application.
  • The spray painting method is appropriate for the application process. Heat-resistant metal primers could be the perfect pick for the grill.
  • The next step is to spray paint with the heat-resistant color of your own choice. Make sure that you spray paint the surface in a gliding motion. This prevents the paint from dripping and creating unnecessary streaks and uneven bumps on the surface of the grill.
  • Applying two to three paper-thin coats is a better option than the application of one thick coat.
  • Applying thin coats for a start will give you an idea of the degree of darkness of color, the paint can provide to the surface.
Heat-resistant paint will give you the texture and the finish you have always wanted for your surfaces. It is a great option to transform the overall appearance of the surfaces that matter to you the most.
