Extra Long Shower Curtains

Ashwini Kulkarni Sule
There are many reasons why you may need an extra long shower curtain in your bathroom, the most common being a high ceiling. Here, we tell you where you can get these, and even how to make them yourself.
These days, homes are becoming large, and bathrooms, even larger. In fact, bathrooms, which were neglected earlier, are getting as much attention as the living room. Naturally, home owners are leaving no stone upturned to transform their bathrooms into home spas. The accessories to be fitted into these huge bathrooms have to be equally massive.
No wonder, there is no dearth of gigantic tubs which resemble mini-pools, along with extra long shower curtains, that tower several inches above the shower head and sweep the floors of your bathroom. However, the market is still full of standard size bathroom furnishings, thereby making it difficult to hunt for extra long curtains for high fitted showers.

The Need

If you have a very high ceiling, then a standard sized shower curtain would fall several inches short. Truncated shower curtains do not look good at all. Moreover, they give a peek into the interior of your bath area. If you have a not-so-attractive bathtub, then exposing it would not be a very good idea.
So, installing extra long shower curtains would hide all the displeasing things and components like plumbing fixtures, shower heads. They are ideal if you want them to hang from ceiling rather than wall brackets. They completely mask the shower area and help in retaining steam better.

Where To Buy

Though difficult to find, extra long curtains may be available at shops that deal with bath furnishings. Due to increasing customer demand, a few shop owners have started stocking longer shower curtains.
If you do not find enough variety in patterns and fabrics, then you may look for options online. You may also have to buy a liner, if you are not going to use an outdoor fabric for curtains. If you want clear curtains, then you may opt for vinyl.

Making Your Own

If none of the curtains available in the market or online suit your taste or needs, then you might have to consider making your own shower curtain.
This can be accomplished in two ways, you can either sew matching or complementary fabric at the bottom of your existing curtain to add length to it, or you can weave ribbon through the grommets of the curtain to increase the length of the curtain.
The problem with the first option is that you may find it a bit difficult to find the fabric that is similar to the existing one in terms of pattern, color, and material. However, if you succeed in finding one, then this can be the best option for you.
Weaving a ribbon through grommets or attaching an extra curtain ring, so that the curtain hangs low, are indeed options of adding length to your curtain, but they are not permanent. Moreover, they may also expose your shower head and other plumbing fixtures, which may not present a beautiful sight.
Extra long shower curtains definitely add more to the beauty of your bathroom than the standard ones. Hence, upgrade your existing shower curtains to the more stylish long curtains which perfectly serve their purpose.
