Easy Instructions for Hanging Vertical Blinds

Before you actually start hanging up vertical blinds, you need to ensure that you have everything you need in order to hang up the blinds. For the process of hanging up vertical blinds you will need a tape measure, a level, a drill, a screwdriver, marker or pencil, the blinds, and studs or brackets.

Before you actually start hanging up the blinds you need to take the proper measurements for the blinds. Vertical blinds are either hung on inside mounts or outside mounts and depending on what type of mounts you choose, the method of measurement will differ.

For an inside mount, you need to measure the width of the inside of the window at the top, middle, and the bottom and use the shortest width.

The shortest height is taken into consideration after measuring the height at the right, center, and left. You will also need to measure the depth of the window frame. Normally you need a depth of at least two and a half inches.

For the outside mounts, you will need to measure the width, across the window and then add four inches on each side. Ensure that you leave about half an inch of clear space at the bottom. The height of the window can be measured by measuring the center of the window from the top to bottom. Ensure that you add six inches to the height that you have measured.

• First and foremost, you need to decide on a level line. Draw a line above the window or the door to decide the level at which the top of your blinds will be placed.

Even if the window or door top is not level, the blinds still need to be level.

• A lot of people prefer using anchors but with anchors any change will require a lot of work and patching. Using studs that have been installed before will save you a lot of trouble in the long run. Also studs are safer and make for better installation.

• Next you need to make the correct markings for your brackets. Once you have found the stud markings, place the top of the brackets at the level line and use a marker or a pencil to mark the points for the screws. Now drill your holes but ensure that they are slightly smaller than the screws so the stud is not damaged.

• Now you will first need to place the head rail in the brackets properly. While doing this follow the directions provided by the manufacturer. Ensure that it is placed properly and snaps to fit. Once it is placed, the head rail should not move at all.

• You will now need to use plastic clips in order to attach the valance that will hide the top rail. Ensure that the vanes face in the same direction and have a hole drilled at one end so that clips can be slipped in at the bottom of the head rail.

• With some types of vertical blinds you will need to attach pull cords. These pull cords need to be attached to a cord mount at the bottom of the wall using either a stud or an anchor.
