Giving a unique texture to the drywalls makes them look great. Here are some techniques that you can consider while texturing these.
A textured drywall scores above a plain painted drywall anytime. A lot of options are available when it comes to texturing a drywall. Here are a few of them that you can try doing yourself. Remember that once you start with a particular texture, you cannot switch to any other in between. You will need to apply the same texture to the rest of the walls.
Knock Down Texture
To start with this technique, mix water with the joint compound until it is thin enough to be applied like a paint. Take a paint roller and start applying the solution over the wall.
You can also use a knockdown sprayer instead of the roller for this purpose. Make sure you do not paint the entire wall at a time, if you are doing the job alone.
Apply the second coat after 10 minutes. To create the texture, press down a finishing knife's flat side against the wall lightly, at a 45 degree angle. Make sure to be gentle while doing this. Drag the knife over the painted area to create a smooth texture. It will take at least 24 hours for the wall to dry completely.
Orange Peel Texture
As the name suggests, after applying this texture, the finished wall will have tiny indentations on it, resembling an orange peel. While working on this technique, you need to be quick.
Also, the consistency of the compound needs to be extremely thin, not runny. You can check the consistency by applying the compound on a wall that will remain covered by the furniture in the future.
Use a sprayer to create this texture. Spray the compound on the walls at a pressure lower than the usual. Let it dry for 10 minutes and then spray the next coat. Once it is completely dry, after about 24 hours, paint the walls with a regular paint of desired color.
Sand Swirl Texture
Start by adding water and white quartz to the joint compound. The mixture should be solid enough to be applied using a trowel. Apply two coats of this mixture on the wall.
Once done, wait for 10 minutes, and then start giving it the texture. For this, get a piece of cardboard and place it flat over the wall gently. Start rotating it softly to get the swirl effect.
You can have a lot of variations in each of these techniques by varying the consistency of the compound or by using different tools. Hence, experiment accordingly and add the desired texture to the drywall.
