Types of House Siding

Vinyl Siding

It comes in strips and has a zip tool for joining and separating the strip. It has perforated holes at the top for fastening onto the exterior wall, interlocking flanges at the top and bottom. This shields the exterior from unpredictable weather conditions.
It is available in a variety of colors and a range of styles, like horizontal and vertical panels. It also comes in a variety of textures, like wood shake and shingle style. It is also used as a retrofit siding and is often employed over wood sidings in many home repairing projects. It is not very expensive, requires less maintenance, and no painting.

Wood Plank and Beveled Wood

It is the oldest type, comes in a variety of styles, textures, and finishes. In horizontal style, it comes in overlapping joints. In the vertical style, board on board, board and batten, channel-groove or tongue, etc., are common styles.
The wood plank type is available in a plywood version with unique face treatments and groove styles. It is easy to repair but demands an exterior finish, such as a paint or stain. It requires high maintenance and gets damaged due to rotting, insects, wrapping, and splitting. It is moderately expensive but the cost varies as per the type and style used.

Cement Fiber

It is the most recent development in residential siding and is the closest to emulating a natural wood grain, being virtually identical to some wood siding products. It is available in different styles, like stucco panel, shingle or shake, and beveled ones.
The cement fiber type is highly durable and is made from recyclable materials. It is cost-effective and doesn't get damaged by rots and insects. Hence, it requires very low-maintenance.

Aluminum

It has evolved over the years and has become a popular choice for new houses. Like vinyl ones, aluminum siding comes in strips and has perforated holes at the top for fastening onto the exterior wall.
It comes in a variety of colors and a wide range of styles, like horizontal and vertical panels. Wood shake and shingle style are two of the many textures that comes in aluminum ones.
It is also used as a retrofit siding for home improvement projects. It is moderately expensive and requires low maintenance; however, denting is a common problem associated with it.
While shopping for the outer walls of your house, look for a material that not only suits the style of your home, but also fits your lifestyle. Pricing, material, and availability should be scrutinized before taking a decision. A house siding will not only improve your home's appearance, but will also add value to it.
